Have you ever wondered about the cost of building and operating a monster truck? The average price of a monster truck is $250,000. While this may seem like a lot, it is reasonable considering their horsepower, which is about 2,000. However, creating a track for a monster truck to race on is a large feat. It takes a crew of eight people about 18 to 20 hours over three days to construct a track and jumps at the arenas and stadiums that host Monster Jam. Therefore, the next time you see one of these massive trucks tearing up the track, remember that it’s not just the price of the truck that goes into making the show possible.

Dennis Anderson, the creator of Grave Digger, built the first truck in his backyard in 1981. The original truck was made from a 1957 Chevy Panel Wagon with a V8 engine from a 1975 Cadillac. Anderson wanted a small pickup truck, but couldn’t afford a Chevy Luv, so he was inspired to build Grave Digger #1. The first Grave Digger was orange and black, like a pumpkin, but in 1982, Anderson painted it green and black, the colors it is today.

The current Grave Digger costs approximately $280,000. It is 10 feet tall, 12.5 feet wide, and rides on tires that are 66 inches tall, weighing 900 pounds each. It is powered by a 565-cubic inch supercharged Hemi engine that produces 2,000 horsepower and comes from a funny car. The current Grave Digger can crush buses and combines. In 2019, Dennis Anderson retired from driving Grave Digger, and his son Ryan took over driving the iconic monster truck.

If you want to own a monster truck, there’s no set price for a new or used one. Some drivers prefer to purchase a brand new or used truck that they use in monster truck competitions. However, drivers and teams that decide to build a truck independently can save some cash. Still, they will invest a lot of time into the project. A typically used monster truck costs about $30,000, while a brand-new truck can cost upwards of $100,000.

How Much Does Grave Digger the Monster Truck Cost?
