If you’re a driver, dealing with a flat tire is inevitable. While it may seem intimidating, changing a flat tire is a straightforward process that any driver can do with little guidance. In this article, we’ll take you through the steps to fix a flat tire and tips on preventing flats altogether.

The first step is finding a secure place to pull over and switch out the tire. Be mindful of your surroundings and try to park away from busy roads. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers that you are pulled over. Once you’re safely parked, take your time and follow the steps below.

Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on your wheel. You don’t need to remove them entirely yet; loosen them enough to easily remove them when it’s time to switch out the tire.

Using a jack, lift the car until it’s high enough to access the flat tire. Ensure the jack is placed correctly and securely underneath your car to support your vehicle properly.

Use your lug wrench to remove all the nuts and remove the flat tire.

Place a new tire on the wheel, ensuring all the lug nuts are secure and tight.

When you’re ready to lower your car back down, turn on your hazard lights and ensure no one is around you. Slowly lower your vehicle back down until it’s resting on the ground.
